Malacca.

Somewhere close to home, well when you stay in Johor, everywhere in Malaysia is close to home – so more of a roadtrip I must say. I must highlight one thing – everything about it reminds me of Macau. Well afterall they were once under the Portugese control (1511) and Dutch (1641) and British (1824) and Japanese (1942) and finally Malaya (1948). The many structures or icons of the buildings bring much interest to me, it triggered the curiosity to discover the source of stories behind each and every one of them – which will in return pull me back here for upcoming projects

Nah, but this time is site recce-ing for an upcoming tour down to Malacca with a couple of buses from Singapore, bringing them back to one of the historic states of Malaysia. A tour guide must have her own stories and not depend on guidebooks alone no?

Here’s just a sneak peek – to Malacca we go-oh-oh-oh-ohhhh.

Apparently kampungs still exist in Malacca- right smack in the middle of Malacca City! Amazing. Super thrilled to bring travellers here, they’ll be amazed I’m sure. Besides how often do we see kampungs in Singapore right? A little history might just do the trick.

The journey to Phi Phi from Phuket Ferry Terminal was about an hour’s journey but filled with adventure. As the ferry cruised the waters of the Andaman Sea, we were awed by the sight of humongous limestone rocks and surprised by a number of dolphins jumping out of the waters. That’s one of the things we couldn’t get enough sitting with free biscuits and tea – a ticket would cost $22.80 (550 Baht) but I reckon getting them off a package would cost cheaper – way cheaper!

On a quest to this beautiful island, we kind of overlooked the possibilities of getting a place to shelter ourselves. Everything was on peak season and most of the hotels were fully booked. We walked for about an hour searching for hotels but alas went back to square one and got off with one of the chalets. Lesson Learnt – BOOK YOUR HOTEL BEFORE EMBARKING! Not big of a deal if you’re travelling during off-peak season but we were there over Christmas-New Year period, imagine the crowd! But heck, there’s so many good food for comfort ;D

The best thing was that there weren’t sight of any cars or heavy vehicles, everyone was either walking or on a bicycle. When I think about it, the island was actually pretty small. Thus the uneven roads and narrow alleys, it was kind of nice walking in a different environment for a change.

So what is there on Phi-Phi?

For a person who neither club nor drink, I get on full energy over water sports and exploring other patches of sand. Shopping would take probably 1/4 of my interest – most of the stalls were selling of about the same things so there wasn’t much to splurge on. During our trip, I spent my afternoons off shore and by evening I’m going crazy over Banana Boat, Para Sailing, Jet Skiing and just being in the waters. I was in full dive suit, so what did I miss under the sun right? Was probably hoping to lose some weight off the suit, but I doubt that happened. By dinner I was having a seafood feast for three days straight! Healthy or what? Indeed food was enjoyable.

Halal food was actually easy to find round the island. there’s halal certified thai cuisines, seafood stalls, and restaurants, cafes and bakeries. Besides a percentage of the residents are muslims, imagine how easy it is to search for food anyway. If there’s one thing I’d recommend for you to feast on would be their PAPAYA SALAD! It tasted so good, we had them for breakfast, lunch and dinner. With a tinge of spice and all things nice – yuuuuuum! *drools over thoughts of papaya salad* Another favourite dessert would be their Pancakes! Especially the banana-nutella spread! Ooh lala~ It’s not exactly pancakes, it’s more like crepe. A light layer of batter and topped off with milk and sugar and bananas and then flipped like prata and voila! This is so popular around Thailand in fact, I just wished one of the many would come to Singapore and set up his stall here. Confirm can sell! I’ll be your no. #1 Supporter! Lai Lai! ;p

It is always cheaper to hop on a boat and share with some other tourists but because we went as a group, there wasn’t much to share anyway. We island hopped to Monkey island, Maya Bay, Koh Mai Pai (Bamboo Island), Hin Klang and lastly the Shark point. Getting down to snorkel with friendly fishes and gasping at the beauty of the corals, reefs and all other underwater. I enjoyed it most – you can’t hear anything underwater so as you swim, everything was dependent on your breathing and sight. So refreshing and indeed such a wonderful experience. This beats Krakatau Island Hopping in Jakarta anytime!

There’s just so much to do here – from snorkeling to scuba to cliff diving to para sailing, jet skiing, and all that crazy water activities!

This was a funny incident where the speedboat got caught between the rocks and everyone had to go down to push it off. They were a group of Koreans I suppose from their features and the way they talk. Super funny!

If you have some spare time, you might want to slip in some trekking to the Tsunami Evacuation Point. An entrance fee of 20 baht ($0.81) and you have the most absolutely amazing view of the island. But there’s this little hint I’ll give away – it takes much hard work, determination, endurance and motivation to get up to its rewards. Steps up the route gets steeper as it gets higher and thus comes the endurance in place to push yourself up till the very end. Your rewards will pay off though as you witness the landscape and exotic flowers surrounding you. I don’t know how reviews mention taking up to 2 hours to reach the top, my stopwatch ran till 30 minutes. I must have been one tough lady to run up the steps panting my way through the awesome view! HAHAHA but hello, totally worth it okay!

I KNOW RIGHT! THE CAT’S EYES ARE OF DIFFERENT COLOUR! HOW COOL IS THAT?!?1? I was super awed by this little kitten – she’s just so pretty!

On the last evening of our trip, while everyone went to shop for souvenirs and all that, I decided to have some me time over sunset so I bargained the ‘driver’ to a 500 baht ($20) to bring me out to sea (because there weren’t many who were left by the shore and also because it was close to sunset), for as long as I wanted to stay out. He had his snacks and crackers and was at the other end of the boat so as far as I can remember I had an extremely satisfying moment alone cross-legged at the end of the boat and whispering the wonders of God. Overlooking the non-ending sea, with the water still, and pin-drop silence – I can and will never forget how good it felt to be able to meditate and enjoy the moment. As the sun sets slowly, I know this memorable journey I went through can never be compared to any – what a wonderful gift to bring home

Both running through sunrise and sunset was really nice though I found myself running in circles at one point just because I went through the same way and got lost on my way back, on the bright side, least I manage to cover extra distance ey? I love how small the island is and how easy it is to get to the other side (north south east and west)

Haha I can never stress enough how much of comfort and joy I came home with, other than a pretty (tanned) face, I brought home much priceless memories and the best thing I know they’re forever etched in me. So grateful to experience whatever I did when I was in Phi Phi. You should too. I’ll bet you’ll come home craving for more! If you ladies are hoping for some shopping tips, I’m not one to tell – I hardly spent any of shopping, but my sister came home with bags worth of $500 of shopping! Shopaholic much now ey? Well, hope this gives you a pleasant insight of what my journey was like over at Phi Phi Island. I’d say its best if you’re up for just some alone time away from modern technology and all that. I had such a great time! I’m sure you’ll do too

Holla! If you’ve been catching up with me on twitter you’d be aware of how fast my life is pacing through 2012 – feels like my life wants to make a fast-forward attempt to the end of it. I’ve been eternally grateful for the past offers and opportunities that came my way – made me feel like all the juggle between writing and being an office girl, the rushing datelines, struggling to meet my bosses expectations, ensuring my articles are published before due date, coffee overdose, and messed up paperwork was worth it! Well, it paid off.

While 2011 has been hectic, I’ve made my decision to lead a better lifestyle this year. Sure it’s been fun travelling my passport off to different countries of my choice, getting amused at being lost in a relatively small island, laughing with strangers over coffee and cringing at delayed flights, I reckon I’ll give writing a few months break It’s time to enjoy living the mundane life in Singapore – annoyed with SMRT breakdowns and complain over the hike of cab fares! That’s the spirit!

So here’s of some pictures during my Christmas Trip in Hong Kong! We had a little party to celebrate over at ‘The Junk’. It was an awesome experience, considering they don’t often do it in Singapore. Watched the Symphony of Lights by the Harbour and just being in the middle of the whole show because we were literally cruising the waters to and fro. Food was great though I had a whole plate of Salad to feed on and the finger food were just slurperlicious! This is actually a good idea to hold party events of up to 30 pax – and real cheap too! Not much of a review but I reckon I’ll share the experience anyway Enjoy!

Till you hear about my beach bash over New Year’s! Have a splenddido weekend yoalls!

God you don’t know how to even swallow your saliva in, comes in a gulp, and all of a sudden there’s a questionnaire right infront of you and your mind just went blank.

“what should I write? what would be appropriate? how am I suppose to evaluate myself? what else do I need? More money? oh yes, more money would sound good but am I that worth? what do they want to hear? what would make me sound humble and not demanding? but it’s my show too right? can i ask for a longer lunch break? or probably an assignment out of town? no no, it’s about my job scope, what am i supposed to do?”

I remember the first time I faced this, totally clueless and afraid to say the wrong things. I remembered talking over and over again to my colleagues asking them for tips and how it’s really like? Now thinking back, I’m giving the ‘pfft’, a hand gesture across my face with rolling eyes. Ya ya, whatever, no biggie :p After a couple, I’m now looking forward to evaluations, after learning of how much benefit it can bring to me and my company. I’ll tell you how!

What is an appraisal? What is it expected out of you?

A performance appraisal usually covers a few aspects of your job scope. Mainly your

• Quality
• Quantity
• Cost
• Time

Usually conducted by your board of directors or the one person who supervises your work at the end of the day. Some companies organize them in terms of monthly, quarterly or yearly. They’re basically analyzing your job done and effort that’s been contributed to the company for the past few months/year and how you can improvise, avoid and maintain.

I’d like to think there’s no expectation when it comes to this. I’d take it as a discussion or a space to interact with your superiors to see how both A and B can do better or work efficiently. So if your sweat is dripping, wipe them off and relax, it’s not as bad as you think it is.

1. Questionnaire

One of the first steps to assist you during the appraisal is the submission of a few questions to give your superiors a rough idea on the topic to touch and discuss. Usually submitted a day before the appraisal so it gives them room to think and consider your points and how they can assist in making things easier for you. They’re humans too you know, you can’t expect them to give an opinion on the spot. The questionnaire will include :

• Your daily priorities
• Job scope
• Areas to improve
• Career Aspirations
• Feedback

So just a few points to cover. These are usually the points that causes us to think and ponder what we’ve been doing for the past few months working with them. Are we happy? If not, how can they assist? Reducing workload? Assign someone to help you? It is not as easy to just shove some random pointers coming from the net and have it there for the sake of it. It is important that you take this very seriously. It will help you achieve what you want, in terms of your career. It can even change your mundane routine at work!

Firstly – think of what you’ve been doing. List down your basic foundation at work (i.e daily scheduling, greeting clients/candidates, administrative work, daily round ups, data entries, etc). The basic things that you do on a daily/weekly basis that is already on your agenda. This would cover the first two points – Daily Priorities/Job Scope

Second – list down the complaints that you’ve been facing on your end. The ones that point your mistakes like delay of reports. wrong scheduling, miscommunication, lack of support or manpower, etc. This will give you an idea on what YOU can improvise and how the company can better come to support you. Everyone have their flaws, listing it down allows the company to see that you are working yourself up the career ladder and that you’re motivated to ensure you’re doing your best for the company. Areas to improve – done!

Third – Career Aspirations is like asking a child “what is your ambition?“. Of course being in any company, you will look ahead in terms of commitment and structure. Everyone wants to level up, and get recognition of work and to know that it’s recognized by position. It’s only natural. So listing what or how you foresee yourself in the next few months give them an insight on where you plan to climb and how they can assist to make it happen. (i.e getting more involved in team discussions, management meetings, weekly operations meetings, etc) A step to make you be more involved in the daily project of the company. It also gives the company your assurance of your commitment level. Forth point – done.

Lastly – So you’ve listed your strengths and flaws and what you aspire to be now it’s time to write up a short paragraph on your opinion. In your own words, how have you seen yourself grow with the company, how did that happen, what are your thoughts on the growth, etc. Like a short summary of your year with them in an overall perspective.

2. Discussion

Most companies hold it in the conference room, some do it one on one in the manager’s office. Either or, always ensure you have your pen and your organizer with you to prepare for key notes during discussion.

What happens next after settling yourself down would be – the ball will be pushed to you. Elaborate your points. It’s very crucial that you know what you’ve written and understand well what you want to deliver to your superiors. It’s the time of the year to share your thoughts and discuss what’s been going on and how in their perspective can you be better. At times, they may pin point some things that you may not like to hear, but just be prepared otherwise. Let them have their say as much as you had yours. At the end of the day you are working for them and they’re also helping you up the career ladder so what have you got to lose?

I rather not speak of how you can ask for a pay rise or compensation or bonuses. I think it’s a very sensitive topic to touch so I won’t go there. I may one day write about it, but as far as my experience have brought me through, I’ve never asked for one, I’ve only gone as far as – “if you think I’m worth of a raise, I’ll be most pleased with it, otherwise I’m happy with where I am settled in“. And yes, I usually receive one. Though one of my superiors once mentioned “you’ll never get it if you never ask”, well mate, it’s your call!

Hope this somehow gives you an insight to what you can expect during your evaluation/appraisal. I’ve just got mine and I thank God it was a smooth one. So here’s a few tips for the first timers

So recently I thought I’d share a little about Skin! My main focus? Face!

I’ve blogged about this somewhere once but I reckon it won’t hurt to share a little more. My story on my skin is so bumpy! As bumpy as how it used to be actually. I grew up picking on little bumps (thinking it was acne) causing those ugly scars and scabs on my face because I happen to pick on it too deep and blood appeared and that was the start of everything! And because I was a girl, the sight of those ugly scars pushed me to start powdering myself up ever since I was 13! I was vain and I couldn’t help it :/

What comes next was even more demoralizing, my pores starts to clog and then the real acnes start forming! The blackheads the whiteheads the red pimples – oh my god! Not forgetting the hormones starting to ‘finally grow up’ and cause a stir on my already depressed face It went away for about a month and then came to visit and that went for months! I tried all types of facial products, soaps and powders, sadly none worked. Even had Dettol burning my face once cause I read up on someone who tried and successfully cleared his/her face!!

I finally reached my limit and wanted to get down to business! My target? To go out of the house WITHOUT makeup!

It was quite a handsome fee to pay though. This resolution of mine took alot of my time and money but the wait was worth it. Through the year, I seeked attention from only 2 outlets!

1. New York Skin Solutions - budget SGD $1000
 I’ve had friends going on and complaining of their services and how pushy their consultants are but well thats them doing business. I respect them for doing so but I was very straight with my consultant, told her I’m on a budget and I just want this this and this. She didn’t bug me any longer. And about them doing their work properly, I have no qualms on that. I do sometimes think the consultants weren’t really doing their job right because I usually come at their last time slot for the day and they’re starting to pack up and go home. Nevertheless it comes down to the product and it was deemed Successful!

2. Skin Lab Medical
 Heh, I forgot my budget for this one but rest assured it was waaaaay cheaper than New York Skin! I took up the Medical Peel package which focuses more on clearing up the dead skin cells and at the same time combat those little acne. At most my session goes up to $120 for about 30 minutes and that’s that to last me for a month! You do have to consult the doctor first before getting yourself into the packages and he will prescribe a cream along with the treatment suitable for you. This is a cheaper alternative and no they won’t bug as much as NYSS

Now that was my first step – approaching a dermatologist and skin centre to go down to the root of it all. You see anyone can do anything to make you look beautiful but thats not job done. You have to work to maintain it! My maintenance tool?

1. Cleansers
(a) NYSS Cleanser for sensitive skin – $40++
(b) Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Wash – $32.90

2. Toner
(a) SK II – SGD$99.00
 I bought the Pitera Set. This was amazing. It didn’t work overnight but it did do me justice in about 2 weeks. I saw the difference and I looked so much better compared to when I first started. So what is this Pitera Set? Well it consists of two of my precious weapons against dirt and grime! Toner and Miracle Water (+1 complimentary mask in which I use once a month). I have this on every morning and night, very crucial and it’ll last me for about 2-3 months (depending on usage). This is like a mini package for starters so it’s essential if you just wish to try it out. Besides it’s good for travel as well- below 100ml for each! The best buy? Get them from Hong Kong, they’re selling at SGD $78!

3. Scrub
(a) Body Shop – Blue Corn 3-in-1 Deep Cleansing Mask – $32.90
This is soooo good! Every woman should have this. It works so well with my skin and I love them to bits. Been using ever since they first launched the product. Just put it on after cleansing, leave for 20 minutes and wash. I did feel the peppermint rush initially but tend to get used to it. I know of many pretty ladies who swear by this product, so here’s me SWEARING BY THIS PRODUCT TOO!

So you might be thinking, oh no pretty heavy investments there ya? Well, nothing comes for free. I was pretty hesitant initially but I knew it was one of the many ways to get this done and over with. So along with the products, I followed up with loads of money-free activities to get the skin clearing within 3 months!

1. Running
I’ve been very lazy and ate as and when I choose to. Feeding myself is no problem but the output was zero and that’s no good for obvious reasons. I started compiling some party music and put it to play for as long as I ran and it did motivate me to go on further each time I slip on my running shoes. Nope, I didn’t go for hours, I started with 20-30 minutes a day for 3 times a week. To me as long as I sweat, that’s good enough. As time pass, I pushed the time and my stamina grew with, making it easier for me to get on my feet. Now? Well now I’m as hip as ever!

2. Drink Up!
On priority – MINERAL WATER! I used to complain how drinking 8 glasses of water makes me pee every few hours before I realized that “hey it’s really working”. First off it cuts down your appetite to eat like A LOT and you tend to make healthier choices. Yup, zero soft drinks!

3. Fruits & Vegetables
Even if it’s one packet of fruits a day, that’ll do better than nothing. Snack on fruits and pile up your plate with green leafy vegetables. Even if you choose to gulp down Maggi in the middle of the night, don’t forget to dress  it with carrots or kailan. Well ultimately you would be able to see the difference and indirectly opt for healthier food and cut down automatically on oily food. Like they always say – you are what you eat. So watch your plate!

4. Sleep
We tend to take this for granted but sleep really does help to speed up the clearing process. Your skin tends to relax and work its way better when you’re sleeping so try to keep on track and have at least 8 hours of sleep. Wake up fresh and you’ll be on your way to a healthier and prettier you!

See? No easy work right? All these were the steps I took to stand where I am today. I used to be so self conscious and get paranoid that others were talking bad about me. Well now, I don’t need to. I feel confident and happier! My skin in clearer (much much clearer) and I’m feeling good. And if you feel good, you’ll definitely look good. Like I said,don’t expect to have it work overnight, stop pinching your skin red and just relax! If you really can’t help it, seek a dermatologist and get it done and over with. Drink your 8 glasses and learn to breathe! Don’t forget to smile

I’m excited for this year, much better than last, for I manage to list down a couple of things I never thought I’d be able to reflect on. Usually, over the years I’ll start scripting new resolutions but time and again it was such a disappointment as work and school gets in the way, I tend to take things for granted.

This year though, I’m quite surprised by the number of things that I’m so confident about in my resolutions. This year it’s no longer a list, no more just dreams on a piece of paper, not just any scribbles, it’s going to be SOMETHING!

You see, resolutions ain’t just about getting your hands on the bag you’ve been eyeing on or the amount of shoes you choose to target by December – it’s more of self reflection.

Resolutions works best with reflections of the past. Reflecting on the mishaps of the past years and working on it to be a better person. Accepting the problem and finding the best solution to it. It’s more than just saying – “I’m going to be a better person” but yet refuse to see the flaws of one’s self. If you find it hard to find your flaw, get someone you trust to help you out. But first remember to let loose that ego and open your heart, you’ll be surprised of what good comes out of it.

This year my resolution weighs a lot on myself – my attitude and my personality. I’m not targeting to be a perfect being but rather to polish up on my flaws and create space for more spiritual enlightenment. I’m thankful for having such a wonderful partner who pins points my mistakes and allow me to grow. I think thats essential though, having someone you trust to be your guiding light who won’t be afraid to speak when you’ve done something wrong.

I know of some who critic others on why do they want to do resolutions during the new year. Its true, if you want to change, you don’t have to wait for a specific occasion but it’s better than nothing. I practise that but I choose to emphasise it on days that brings extra hype to it and I know I’m not alone So don’t let these people get in your way to bring you a step forward.

I hope your new year’s been a beautiful start, don’t bother if it hasn’t, we’re just at the beginning anyway. There’s time to rock 2012 the way you want it!

Union Station is HUMONGOUS! It’s really big and there’s this foodcourt at the lower level which is HUGE! It serves more than a train station, it’s filled with shops (clothes, toiletries, souvenirs, etc) and restaurants (ethnic, American, Pizza, European, etc). Even the ceiling’s amazing! I’ve heard a number mentioning how tourists can find the best quality of souvenirs right here! I’m guessing it’s thanks to the renovation works not too long ago, this place have definitely impressed me,alot!

I’ll load the rest where I can find the time to. These few days chasing time is no joke but I’ll keep to my word to keep posting up new entries. Right now, the next entry is scheduled to be in a few days time right after the launch of its article, here’s a teaser……

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the amount of friends I gained over the past few months. Tho some of whom I’ve never met before, many I’ve interacted with have brought much colours to my life. For that I must say, a million thanks to all on my Facebook, Twitter and Instagram account for the unconditional love you’ve passed around be it support, encouragement, life lessons, live updates and words of comfort. I’ve always told myself, stepping into the social networking space is not to attract fans, but rather friends. I welcome new ones and treasure old ones so thanks a mil for being there for me through my ups and downs. Here’s a huge virtual hug to all!

Okay moving on. I’ve mentioned a couple of times how I’ve got drafts to load, but I usually take ages to publish them. There’s a few factors on why I do so, one of which is because most of my annual leave’s taken up by me travelling, so upon reaching home, the first that comes to my head is the endless emails flooding my inbox. You’ve got to earn it honey, nothing in life comes for free. I’ve always believed that to travel and see places, you need not necessarily be an air stewardess. That inspired me to go out there and build myself up on my own feet rather than pester my parents to feed my travel funds. You’ll enjoy travelling so much better and taste the sweetness of it. Even if it means staying in a hostel or bed & breakfast. I’m a flexible traveler, I go round budgets and work with it. I figured the thrill of adventure makes everything more memorable

My burning passion for writing have brought me far and I’m grateful to have it come side by side with travelling. It gives me the opportunity to meet new faces and explore out of my comfort zone. It taught me to appreciate life and be grateful for the many things I’m blessed with. The act of travelling is not based on fun alone, I realize being up in the skies brings me a whole lot closer to myself. The empty feeling I get is worked around self reflections – what am i doing here? Why am I here? How did I get here and so on so forth. The moment I land, a whole new light shine from my eyes, refreshing who I was before. Like they say, who you are now will never be the same as the you, you are before or next. Every second is history, so never hold yourself back from doing something you really want to do. Work for it.

So as I write and type and squeeze them brain juices for the past couple of months, I found myself at this beautiful metropolitan city….

I didn’t manage to load all 3000 photos in full, so here are some tidbits to share. I’ll be publishing another post on Ellis Island, Grand Central Station and DC in the upcoming days, so look out for it. This time, my highlight is the Empire State Building and a few others I manage to bump into.

Don’t you just love how blue the sky is. I adored every bit of it. Especially this photo with the Empire State Building! Standing tall at a 102- story high, it holds it’s position well as the tallest building in New York. This beauty is open daily from 8 am – 2 am! The observation deck is on the 86th floor alongside it’s souvenirs counters, if you’re on for the thrill, you can go up to the 102nd floor and probably shed a tear observing the view. I’d recommend you to go in the evening and watch as the city lights up after sunset! Breathtaking.

The way to the building is pretty easy from Penn Station. About 2 blocks away.
It’s also walking distance to the New York Public Library and Madison Square Park.

But I’d say, don’t waste your money, just be tourist as you already are and join the queue and make new friends, unless you’re a Chuck Bass waiting for his Blair Waldorf

Colehaan is one place that I’d spent most of my afternoon if I were to bring my sisters along. It’s a designer store basically with pretty little things that you fall in love at first sight! They’re quite pricey but definitely good quality! I dare not splurge myself, I went window shopping instead :p Save myself!

A heaven for all chocolate lovers. I didn’t manage to snap any pics when I went in, I was too busy choosing and surprising myself with the different flavors they had! It may be a little expensive but it’s worth every cent of it. They are actually imported from Switzerland so you can guess how tasty it can get! Oooooh lala~ It looks like a candy store from a far but it turned out to be a colourful choclate shop! Never fail to drop by to pack some home!

Okay I have more coming up but I’ll save it for the next post. I thought it was bit boring having seen the same post over and over again :/ So ta-da! So nice of me no? Oh gosh, the thought of chocolates are making me crave. Till the next post, have a chocolatey weeeeeek!

What’s humanitarian aid? Well, it is a cause that provides assistance to those in need. Like gathering food supply, building shelters like schools and homes (since they lack of money for infrastructure), donations (to get more in-need resources such as sand, food, water,etc), medical assistance and support, educational assistance, clothes (salvation or used cloths), etcetera. These group are like the medium for us to reach out to the less fortunate

Do note that this is not an advertorial. I happen to chance upon a friend who was mentioning about who wish to join hands to help this project, spreading word on extending a helping hand. I thought it was worth sharing. Why not right? Who knows there’s someone else out there who wish help to make a difference to those less fortunate? Who wish to assist make the world a better place, to the people who deserved it more than we do?

So who are those involved in this?
It happen to be a non-profitable group of people who’ve recently visited Cambodia. Torn by the sight of the condition of living, the people and the under-developed land, they came back and put together thoughts to help out make a better place with what and however they can. It must have had such an impact on them to have this non-profitable project up.

To where are they extending their assistance?
Since they’ve seen what it’s like in Cambodia, that is where they’re heading back again. I’ve heard of how unruly the place is, and I’m not doubtful of their intentions rather more proud than ever *thumbs up

I may not know the people involve in this project personally, but I have enough faith to extend without questions. I’ve ever experienced a couple of people who took advantage of causes like these and use the money instead for their own benefit , though what I did learn from that is there is no use getting angry about it or regret. Because at the end of the day it comes down to one thing, your intention. Whatever happens after that is God’s will. And if so the money happen to lie on the hands of the unfaithful, let that be between him/her and God. For everything happens for a reason after all He is the All-Knowing!

But be rest assured, I’m not trying to force this into you, if you think you’re not certain or are in doubt about this project, no loss either. Don’t do something half-heartedly, if you wish to do so, go all out and leave it in God’s hands to hold. I’m sure you know you can trust Him in all you do

In addition to your donation, a packet of delicious chicken briyani will be delivered to your doorstep in exchange for your support on December 25th. Yes, like Christmas present only ah? You can self-collect as well if you wish. Food is 100% guaranteed Halal and am very sure packed fresh out of the pot!

Before I begin, I’d like to clarify that I do not drink, I do not smoke, I do not club, I do not do drugs. Given a choice I won’t go to bars or clubs, but even if I do, I solely stick to a bottle of mineral water and sitting one corner with my camera watching people make a fool out of themselves okay we’re clear now, go ahead!

Moving forward, BALI IS AMAZING Everyone is really nice there and they do understand English fairly well, I had an easy time conversing with the citizens. I’m guessing it’s because it’s one of the top tourism spots in Asia, there were loads of Americans where I was staying.

What is there at Bali? Beautiful beaches and loads of night clubs. Shopping I would say is average, most shops are duplicates selling at the same price or more. Bargains are great fun but nasty sometimes. Ask the price for something that you would want to get otherwise just look, smile and walk away. They’ll usually put a price at the highest possible, so be smart and reach for the lowest you can go. Bargain till you think its worth the price paying for, because that’s how I got home with plenty of skirts, maxi dresses and necklaces

I was booked a flight via Qatar Airways. I’ve flew a couple of times with them and no bad remarks so far. Always been pleased with their service and facilities. Movies and music are up to date and entertained me well through my flight. It took barely 3 hours to get there so I took a chance to just enjoy Adele’s soundtracks while starting to pen down my thoughts and reviews while it’s still fresh. food was acceptable, tho I didn’t really enjoy what looks like horfun yellow noodles with steamed chicken? I had everything else except that. And yes, I had the same serving on my flight back (nothing surprising).

It came along with a bun with butter, a cup of mineral water, fruit platter and carrot salad.
Fit my diet well, very well. So I was satisfied

I checked in at ‘The Royal Beach Seminyak Hotel and Resort‘. Its 4 stars and I must say they met their standard. I love how it’s situated right by the beach, such ease to head down for a run or a walk. Checking in was smooth, everything was already arranged so all I had to do was show up. Reception greeted me with a refreshing towel and a cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice I settled myself down for a short nap before heading out for dinner. It was by then round 8.00pm? There’s no time difference so no hassle of changing your clock’s setting.

Room was clean and no problems with toilet (heh, I see loads of review on toilets, I’m so glad I’ve never faced bad shower rooms!). TV programmes are family friendly, even had MTV (SCORE!!!). My room was the second room from the corridor, so I had Wi-Fi (the slightest tho still works fine for me). Internet access is chargeable by hours/days. I didn’t manage to really use the net much, being out alot tires me out most of the time, never really had the time to enjoy the room, even when I tried, I end up sleeping instead! xD No pillow menu, but pillows are extra comfortable! Slept like a baby and missed sunrise…TWICE! But always on time for my usual morning run and breakfast by 10!

I didn’t snap a picture of the buffet spread but I had a good breakfast meal with waffles and pancakes, a buffet of breads, eggs, cereals, fried rice, fried noodles, porridge, soup, soto noodles, satay, salad, fruits, cakes and my favorite…. PLENTY OF SAMBAL (CHILLI PASTE)! Oh god, I love their chilli!

I had my fair share of funny incident while I was there. Say one of them was while I was waiting to meet a good friend of mine. We’ve known each other since secondary school and never met since I left. I waited outside the hotel, scorching hot and burning my skin, literally. Then I thought I saw him, so I waved and ran across the road with a HUGE smile. And the guy just stood there with a puzzled look, looking around (at that point of time I didn’t realize these were signs!). I got closer and realized ‘oh shit, wrong guy, omg omg omg, what am i supposed to do!?’. I went up to him anyway and apologized telling him I mistook him for someone else. He got the hint I wasn’t local so he started talking to me. No ladies, not flirting.. here’s my evidence.

Me : Kamu tunggu cowok ya? Eh cowok cewek cowok guy..?*lost in thoughts*
Him : Iya.. (smiling)
Me: Wait a minute! Cewek untuk perempuan, cowok untuk lelaki kan?!?! Sorry sorry so.. *puzzled*
Him : Haha, aku nungguin cowok deh. I’m gay (smiling)
Me : 0.0

I think I looked too surprised there and he started laughing. Even recommended me gay bars to go to. Haha. It wasn’t long before his boyfriend came along. And urm, his boyfriend looked really really protective, I had to introduce myself before he thinks I’m the scandal. So funny, the guards were observing the whole time and when I walked back to them they were laughing like mad. Oh god, what a start.

One of the shopping area that I can recommend would be Pasar Seni at Kuta. Kuta’s so happening compared to Seminyak. They have twice the amount of shops, cheaper and most importantly more variety! I didn’t linger around much, we were chasing for time so right after this bit, we head for coffee and catch up. Tho I regret not shopping here, the shops by Seminyak are mostly boutiques and expensive. I did manage to run down to Kuta hours before my flight back to grab all that I can get. Always leave shopping at the last bit, confirm won’t overspend! Haha

One of the things you should do while you’re there would be ‘Get A Massage!’. They’ve got really skillful masseuse at a really good deal. It can be as low as SGD 5 – SGD 100++. I was scheduled at one of the best spas in Seminyak, Prana Spa & Yoga. That was such an impromptu and luxurious experience. Very pricey but excellent service and facilities. It’s built like a mini castle with a tinge of a Persia, Egypt, India, Morocco and the Middle East feel. They’ve got an absolutely high standard and they met it. 5Stars, no less. They brought me to their private suite and if you ever go YOU WILL BE SPOILT. Everything is taken into consideration, from the Jacuzzi to the shower room to the beds to the massage oils, even their powder is genuine pearl! That if I’m not wrong is called ‘One Thousand and One Nights’ going at SGD 815++ for 5 hours! Still, I’d recommend those who are going for their honeymoon, an absolutely luxurious experience

I wasn’t given an opportunity to gobble down their local food because my bosses were there as well and lunch/dinner was over at the top notch restaurants, I went strictly vegetarian for the weekends tho (just to stay safe). Drinks were planned to be by the beach bars and it was breathtaking. Watching the waves and listening to them come and go. They played soft music at the background and had a very cozy ambience, dimly-lit and candles on each table. How romantic can that get?! The night ended at the club which is located at Kuta (10-15 mins away from Seminyak). A row of clubs that allow you to hop from one to the other. With colourful lights streaming out of each and ladies dressed in really low-cut and short dresses welcoming you at the entrance. Scent of alcohol filled the streets with drunkards trying to find their way to god-knows-where. I didn’t make it through an hour before calling it a night and grabbed a cab back to the hotel. The bed sounds much more appealing to me. Haha Let me take you through both nights.

   This beach bar/restaurant is beautiful. The architecture and the layout really impressed me well. I must say this is a must go if you wish to just relax over drinks. Really romantic, it’s nice to bring your partner here. Too cozy for a corporate dinner and drinks. Haha I end up half asleep through my conversation. The wind was like devil’s whispers to go to bed. (The good devil cause the bad ones would pull me into drinking and all that :p JOKE!) But really, this is superbly awesome! The ratings were right. You can even walk down to the seaside and play by the sea. Absolutely breathtaking! If you’re particular about how it’ll stink of alcohol, you simply don’t need to! It’s open air!
   
2. Ku De Ta - Seminyak

   t: 62 361 736969We had drinks at Ku De Ta on the second night. A pretty short walk in from the entrance, no cabs were allowed in. There were guards to scan you before you can step in. Security have been real tight ever since the Bali bombing, almost every place we went to, we had to go through security checks. So don’t get irritated by them, you’ll get immune to it.Ku De Ta is somewhat like Potato Head. I’d still prefer Potato Head hands down. Either way I enjoyed sleeping through my conversation, I have a strong feeling the beach bed is the reason for it. It’s just so relaxing, lying down with a hot latte facing the sea and just stare at it. Ultimate bliss. Thinking of it makes me sleepy :p It’s very crowded here, maybe it was because it’s Saturday night. Service was average, still acceptable. The waiter/waitress were very friendly, they would pose whenever they could and start giggling. Music was soothing, and the ambience is as good as Potato Head. I expected clubbing scene but it was nothing like that. Very nice to wine and dine.Also, I realized it was merely 10 minutes run from my hotel. Ku De Ta in the afternoon looks so much nicer. Pitched in for a cup of juice and ran back to the hotel. If I didn’t run, i wouldn’t have known it was THAT close!
   
3. Hu Bar - Seminyak

   We had drinks here on the first night. It was not humid and weather was perfect with slight breeze. They had lights hanging from the trees, candles everywhere and house music at the indoor bar. We sat outside lying on huge bean bags! Awesome piece of invention there! Literally, shutting my eyes to bed after jumping on it. Service is good, ambience was lovely. Just a chill out place with good music.  Should have snapped a picture of the dance floor, but I was too sleepy to even snap one. The dance floor was awesome! They had like a disco ball and blinding lights with a dancer on the bar just doing waves using her body. We had a good laugh on that.

Remember how I said Kuta is rich with night clubs? Well here it is. I didn’t snap alot, most were pictures of my colleagues getting drunk. So I’ve decided to make a pact ‘whatever happens in Bali, stays in Bali‘. Though I will not spare the pictures on Facebook! Wicked!

Alright here’s my last bit. The Beach.
It’s always so good to be by the beach when you’re on a foreign land. I think it’s one of God’s best creation. I enjoy every bit of it. The sound of the waves crashing, the sight of tides from afar, beautiful blue sky, and the glorious sun. How amazing. Morning run has been my habit from far along ever since I embraced my love it. The beach have always been my no. #1 spot to run. It brings such serenity and calmness. Often I’ll end my routine with yoga, so meditating by the beach is just perfect!

I was bit bimbotic, thinking I’d spread a layer of sun block instead I was happily putting on tanning oil all over me, end up coming home twice darker 0.0 I did love how it turned out after a day or two though, like a nice layer of brown. Thank god I didn’t turn orange!!

The tides were really rolling in that day. The guy below’s trying to hold our stuff to prevent it from falling. Can you imagine if everything dropped!?! It’ll be one hell of a trip but yay it didn’t! Weather was PERFECT! Just the way we hoped for it to be.

The sunset is SWEEEET! Look at that. Such beautiful scenery. Desktop Wallpaper alert! Haha. We were chilling out at the hotel’s beach bar with a guy who strummed his guitar live and sang. So romantic okay! They even lit candles on the grass and it made such a breathtaking sight. I’ll never forget this, I was blown away, literally.

Bali is beautiful don’t you think? I loved every bit of it. They’re just so full of candles and beach and romance. A great place for honeymoon. I’m not a party-goer but my friends have been saying how I’ve missed out on clubbing while I was there and I never fail to smile and say I didn’t lose out anyway I’m not a boring person, I define fun differently and I’m proud of that. I’m glad my parents brought me up the way I am today. So super duper grateful
